Just think Antoine, this is one of my favorite squares in Aix, as it's teeming with places to stop for a coffee or lunch...Place des Cardeurs takes its name from the old Jewish quarter that stood here in the Middle Ages. Imagine yourself back in time, in the middle of these narrow streets. At the center of the square is a fascinating fountain created in 1977 by local artist Jean Amado. It adds a refreshingly artistic touch to the atmosphere of the square. The history of Place des Cardeurs is intriguing. It was laid out in 1963, after the demolition of a group of insalubrious houses. For a time, the freed-up space was used mainly as a parking lot. However, in the 1980s, the square underwent a major transformation with the construction of a full-length underground parking lot.
